Dear Members,
It will be my honour to serve as the Seniors Captain at Hearsall Golf Club for the 2025 season, and I will take this opportunity to introduce myself and let you know more about the year ahead for our Seniors Section.
I joined Hearsall as a 5 day member in 2017. However my first experience playing our course began around 15 years ago when I used to join my dad, Pete, and other members for a game here a few times a year. Since 2021, I’ve been playing in our seniors matches, serving as Vice Captain last year, and I joined our Seniors committee in 2022, which has sought to plan for, and secure the future of this important membership group within the club.
This year, once again the team has put together a full and varied programme of golf, beginning with a Texas Scramble on 17th March, followed by:
11 Stableford club competitions (for a one off fee of £15, or £5 per competition)
24 home and away fixtures (including Maxstoke, Robin Hood, Shirley)
An away trip with DB&B and 2 rounds at Telford Hotel, Golf and Spa ( 28-29th April - the sign-up sheet is in the locker room now )
2 x 18 a side competitions ( 2nd June at Ingestre, 15th Sept at Leamington )
An exchange day at The Leicestershire for up to 40 of us ( 4th August).
A Christmas lunch with prize-giving
Each of our 24 matches, home or away, will generally finish with a 2-course meal, followed by a short presentation by the captains. The cost of the meal also covers the green fee for away fixtures, so makes it a great value way to play some of the Midlands finest courses.
The Club Stableford competitions are split into 2 divisions, 55-69, and 70 plus, with 1st, 2nd, and 3rd prizes in both categories. All qualifying golfers will need to either sign up for the year at £15, or pay £5 per competition, so it clearly makes sense to pay for the season if you are likely to play 3 or more competitions. Entries for these competitions can be made on IG.
In summary, all members aged 55 years plus, new or existing, are welcome to participate in as little or as many of the activities we have planned for the 2025 season. However many matches you want to play, you will find the group is very welcoming. The fixtures will appear on the Seniors board in the changing rooms generally 3-4 weeks in advance of the date. Please add your name on the lists. We plan to run a WhatsApp group to communicate the teams, and any updates for matches. We will aim to give everyone an opportunity, bearing in mind some of the away venues are very popular. Support for our home matches will be equally important for the season ahead.
If you have any questions or queries, please contact me or Trevor Williams ( Secretary) via the Club’s IG portal, or if you see us around, feel free to stop us or any of the Senior committee members ( Richard Page, Sim Connor, Tony Breedon, Paul Skinner and Peter Martin) for a chat.
Here’s looking forward to a great season in 2025!
Martin Walsh
Seniors Captain
